Grain-oriented and non-oriented steel use different code families across mills — jump straight to the one you need, or read the code-format primer below first.

Code format

How to read a grade code

Most mill and standard codes follow the same logic once you know the pattern — thickness, then type, then a loss or induction value.

1

Thickness prefix

Leading number is nominal thickness ×100 — “27” means 0.27 mm, “50” means 0.50 mm.

2

Family letter

Q/G = grain-oriented normal, P/H = Hi-B, R/HD = Hi-B domain-refined; A/W = non-oriented.

3

Loss or induction value

Trailing number is max core loss (W/kg ×100) for CRNGO, or a relative loss/induction index for CRGO.

4

Standard prefix

M-prefix codes (EN/AISI) list max loss directly, e.g. M400-50A = ≤4.00 W/kg at 0.50 mm.

Note: codes are supplier catalogue numbers, not interchangeable part numbers — core loss and induction can vary slightly between mills even at the same nominal thickness and family. Confirm against a datasheet, or send us the code and we’ll match it to stock. “—” means that mill has no published equivalent at that spec.

Data flag: in the 0.50 mm group, our source sheet lists Baosteel B50A400 against ThyssenKrupp M400-65A. The EN naming pattern would normally put this at 0.50 mm as M400-50A — this looks like a transcription slip in the source table, but we’re carrying it exactly as supplied rather than guessing. Please confirm the correct TKS code against your own ThyssenKrupp datasheet before ordering against this line.

FAQ

Matching grades across standards

Are these codes directly interchangeable between mills?

Not exactly — they’re the closest published match at the same nominal thickness and family, but core loss and induction can differ slightly between mills. Always confirm against a current datasheet, especially for tight-tolerance applications.

I only have a European (EN) or Japanese (JIS) code — can you supply an equivalent?

Yes. Send us the EN or JIS code and we’ll confirm the closest GB grade we produce, along with the datasheet so you can compare core loss and induction before ordering.

Why does one mill sometimes have no listed equivalent?

Not every mill publishes a code at every thickness/family combination — some run narrower product lines. A “—” in the table means that mill doesn’t list a match, not that no equivalent material exists.

What does the “M400-65A” flag next to B50A400 mean?

Our source cross-reference lists that ThyssenKrupp code against the 0.50 mm Baosteel grade B50A400, which looks like it should read M400-50A under standard EN naming. We’re showing it as supplied and flagging it rather than silently correcting it — verify against your own TKS datasheet before ordering.

Can you test and certify to my specific standard?

Yes — production runs under ISO 9001 and IATF 16949, and we can supply a mill test certificate and compliance statement against GB, EN, JIS or AISI on request.

My grade isn’t in this chart — can you still help?

Very likely. This chart covers our core stocked families; send us your grade, datasheet or drawing and we’ll confirm whether we produce a direct or close equivalent.

Can I get this chart as a downloadable file?

Yes — the full grade equivalents chart is available as a PDF on our Downloads page, alongside CRGO/CRNGO datasheets and the product catalog.
